Gene, is that you??

Today, during my customary shenanigans throughout the store, I came to the startling conclusion that Activision may have a copyright infringement lawsuit on their hands. After extensive research into the matter I have decided that the extremely popular Skylander Giant character "Crusher" looks disturbingly like our beloved lesbian tongued Gene Simmons.

You be the judge:

If Gene is anything like Kim Kardashian (who tried to sue Old Navy for having a mannequin that resembled her), he will already be pursing the matter; however, unlike Kim, there is no question that if he should win said lawsuit, the money will probably go to a charity instead of towards new designer shoes. Ouch burn! Sorry Kim, but the world knows how big your ego really is.

Either way it is safe to say that Crusher is bad ass.

Home-made Lasagne Time!

It is home-made lasagne day at my house!

Check out what we got up to.
We are serious about our lasagne.

Let's make the dough.
Add a little basil and chop it into chunks.

Let's roll it out. Not all ghetto like...
but with a pasta machine!
No rolling pins here!

Let's layer it up! and add some fresh spinach.

Time to add cheese and bake it.

Let's eat!!

This has been a family tradition for many years now.
It takes quite a bit longer than it would if you were using packaged
lasagne noodles, but it tastes so much better! It is really worth it to spend the
extra time making it. A little bit of family time'll hurt no'one ;)

Headed Overseas

I think sometimes we lose ourselves and our idea of what makes us unique. There have been many occasions where I have been confused about how to persue my future. I recently graduated from Lakehead University's Faculty of Education (for teaching) and have found myself wollowing in self misery because I cannot seem to secure a supply teaching job. With that being said, I am not the only one who has graduated that are having problems, there are many people who are in the same boat as me and are likewise getting discouraged.

The other day I awoke to an article in the local paper about taking a course to teach English overseas (TESOL - Teach English to Students of Other Languages). I have always thought about persuing this but something has been holding me back. This time I followed through and attended the meeting/seminar about what to expect in this course, and what thise course will lead you to. At first I thought that it seemed too good to be true. The article stated that jobs were guaranteed. However; I dragged myself and my mom to the meeting and learned that there are tons of opportunities overseas and there aren't enough people persuing this option. There is a surplus of jobs!

It took me a few days of thinking and battling nerves to decide that this was something that I was meant to do. It is an experience of a lifetime that I feel I would regret if I gave it up. So, today I officially registered myself in the course and am excited to begin the next chapter in my life. I am thinking about where to go, but my top choices currently are Switzerland, Dubai, Thailand and Vietnam.

The great thing about this program is that you don't even need to be a certified teacher! (although there are some places that do require it to apply) - You just need to be a native/fluent English speaker (preferably without an accent) in order to do it. If you are interested check out their website at: www.globaltesol.com for further information.
If you have managed to stumble upon my post, and either live in one of those places, or have been to one of those places and are up for sending me some information on your experience/every day life that would be amazing! I really would love to learn about things that I should go see (tourist attractions) annual festivals and your favorite restaurants, great places to relax and read, internet cafes and other cool places to visit etc...

You can leave me a comment below this post (and if you add your email that would be great too!).

Fall of Giants - Ken Follett

This blog is basically a way for me to keep track of my thoughts, among my thoughts are many of th books that I have read and am reading.. so from now on, I have decided to incorporate some of the book reviews that I have contributed to my profile on www.goodreads.com as books truly fall within things that can describe me (I love to read).

So here is a copy of my review and character list from the novel Fall of Giants by Ken Follett

Fall of Giants (The Century Trilogy #1)Fall of Giants by Ken Follett

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

As a fan of historical fiction, I absolutely adored reading Fall of Giants. It was beautifully written and narrated in the third person during the years of WWI. It captured the lives and struggles of people of all ages and classes in various countries around the world during this period.

Once I got into Fall of Giants it was really difficult to put down. It was also really easy to fall in love with the characters and get to know each of ther personalities. As a reader I felt a connection with many of the characters (especially Lady Maud, Ethel and Billy)to the point that I could sympathize with their remorse, happiness, and guilt.

On the other hand, there is a lot of political talk about various governments and I found it difficult sometimes to follow along... At first it was difficult to associate certain characters with the country they are from because a lot of them travel to the other countries the book talks about. It was also hard to decide which side each of the countries were on.

Here is a list of countries that the book mentions organized into their corresponding groups:

Allies

- USA
- Canada
- British Empire (England, Wales, etc...)
- Russia
- France

Axis

- Germany
- Austria-Hungary
